Christine Meuris

The Stress Fracture series is an outgrowth of the colorful mandala-like pieces in the Bargello Works series.  I removed all but a few dots of color and introduced cracks.  The cracks initially called to mind the calving of icebergs and the break up of polar ice.  As I continue the work, the image of a mandala--the symbol of universality, wholeness and integrity--breaking apart has grown to be a potent symbol of the generalized stress of living with the results of the 2016 presidential campaign.
